Commercial Manager

Reed Secure is a specialist provider of permanent, contract, temporary and outsourced recruitment solutions for security cleared professionals.

We require a Commercial Manager to cover an existing workload within Metropolitan Police, based in Kilburn Police Station (Hybrid working – 2 days office per week).

This is a permanent position.

Job Purpose:

• Will have line manager duties for a consultant and analyst (a very hands-on role).
• This role is an integral part of Commercial Services. In 2020, the MPS Commercial Function revised its operating model, establishing six Pillars which have overall accountability for activity covering the commercial life cycle, as well as relevant Business Partnering responsibilities across the wider business.
• In this role you will be expected to undertake Category Management, contributing to delivering Commercial Excellence for the Met, providing a customer focused service, understanding the business need and stakeholder drivers, with the aim of becoming a trusted commercial advisor.
• You will also develop relationships with MPS’s key and strategic suppliers, driving value for money and risk management excellence across the category.
• You will play an essential part in leading parts of the overall commercial life cycle.
• You will own key aspects of Category Management, including strategy and policy development, understanding needs and sourcing options, and the procurement process itself.
• You will feed into the wider Category Management team, working with a range of team members, internal and external stakeholders to drive improved commercial outcomes for MPS.

Skills and experience needed to be successful in this role:

• Excellent understanding of sourcing and procurement methodologies, ideally within a regulated or public sector environment.
• Experience of developing and implementing category strategies in collaboration with the business which deliver high quality commercial outcomes and organisational benefits, whilst ensuring value for money.
• Experience of leading a negotiation with suppliers and successfully employing appropriate negotiating techniques based on the category sourcing strategy.
• Ability to prioritise and manage a demanding workload whilst balancing both operationally urgent and important tasks to deliver to deadlines aligned with strong project management capabilities gained through practical professional experience.
• Experience working and effectively influencing stakeholders, projecting personal impact and credibility at all levels of the organisation and the external market, demonstrating an ability to influence, persuade and effectively communicate.
• Evidence of inspirational and inclusive leadership, developing a professional culture and building commercial capability that empowers team members through coaching, mentoring, and sharing of expertise / knowledge.
• Experience of working in Contract Management roles or across the commercial life cycle.
• CIPS qualification / IACCM certification (or working towards).

This role offers a competitive salary of £57,301 which includes allowances totalling £2,841 per annum.
